AC Dryer Vent Cleanings

South Florida Dryer Vent

One thing you might not think to do very often is hire professionals to conduct a thorough dryer vent cleaning. But a regular dryer vent cleaning will make your dryer more efficient, less of a fire hazard and save you money on the monthly bill. It is also an efficient way to reduce excess dust and humidity in your home. In addition to helping make your home more comfortable, a clean dryer vent will also extend the life of clothing by reducing excess heat that will damage clothes over time.

Your dryer dispenses hot air through a duct system to a vent that leads outside. Over time and regular use from your dryer, dirt, fiber and lint – which is highly combustible – build up inside your vent. Even if you diligently clean your lint filter after every drying cycle, lint naturally attaches to the hot moisture that condenses inside the dryer vent. The problem is compounded as more and more lint accumulates, making it easier for lint and other debris to become trapped in the vent. This makes an un-cleaned dryer vent a safety hazard, as the decreased air flow traps the hot air in the vent, potentially causing a fire.

In fact, according to statistics gathered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission between 2009 to 2011, dryers accounted for 18,000 fires, 600 fire-related injuries, and more that $25 million in property damage.

The United States Fire Administration recommends cleaning dryer vents regularly. At Neighbors A/C, we suggest that you have your vent cleaned or inspected on an annual basis to ensure you have no blockages that could cause a fire and that your dryer is using as little electricity as necessary.

The following signs are indications that your dryer vent is blocked and requires cleaning:

  • Heavy clothing, such as towels and jeans, take longer than usual to dry.
  • The laundry room feels overly humid and clothing feels hotter than usual at the end of a cycle.
  • There is a burning smell when using the dryer.
  • The outside vent hood flap does not open properly

Our specialists will be able to assess your dryer vent and determine if your vent needs a cleaning. If you can’t remember the last time your vent was cleaned, then don’t take a chance on becoming another fire statistic. Let us clean your dryer vent and give you some peace of mind!
